About Us

Troop 347 was formed in February of 1999 and sponsored by the Brighton Lions Club through 2010. In 2010 the Knights of Columbus, Council 7304 Brighton, Michigan became our charter organization. In 2017 we move the Charter to St Patricks Church in Brighton. The troop has earned the BSA Quality Unit award every year.

The first scoutmaster was Jerry Weyand and the Committee Chair was Steve Flechsig. Jerry along with several parents and assistance scoutmasters took 20 boys ages 11 and 12 to Scout Camp in Clair, Michigan that first year. The boys had to assume leadership roles as well as just be boys which is quite a task for a new Scoutmaster. The Troop has continued this commitment to a scout lead troop. Older scouts mentor younger scouts. 5 out of the original 22 Scouts have become Eagles.

Since 2003, 21 scouts from The troop have earned their Eagles. The troop is currently lead by Scout Master Phil Balmforth and has 40 scouts.

Scouts are boys ages 11 – 18. Troop 347 meets at the Parish Life Center (PLC) located St. Patrick's Church on Monday nights 7 - 8:30 pm when school is in session.  Please check the calendar on this website for the date of our next meeting. Troop 347 is open to members of all faiths.
